help in the aisles

Shopping in Asda yesterday, I realised the disadvantage of not having children...

Little ones fit in the trolley and stack the items, bigger children can be sent in all directions to select purchases and even older ones can run amok so that one can choose in "peace" while other shoppers keep a respectful distance. The biggest of the flock can go ahead to reserve and "protect" an empty check out!

Being on my own I am constantly struggling to avoid approaching customers and keeping clear of harassed staff trying to re-fill empty shelves. So many assistants seem to be "shopping" for online customers - just more people in the way, obstructing my progress. So many special offers of doubtful authenticity. Just so many people...

Yes, even with my eyes closed I would know it must be Christmas in a supermarket!
